College Football – Fairmont State University

The Fighting Falcons will start the football season against West Virginia State on September 3^rd. If you aren’t able to make it to a game at Fairmont State University, you can still join Colasessano’s to support the Fighting Falcons. Click here to see the complete football schedule.

The Mountaineers open the season on Sept. 3 against Southeastern Conference opponent Missouri, marking the first time an SEC opponent will come to Morgantown since LSU visited in 2011 and the fourth since 2007. Click here to see the complete football schedule.

Nothing is as satisfying on a hot summer day as gelato, the Italian ice cream. Gelato is a great dessert year round but there’s something about the summer heat that makes this cool treat a necessity. If you’re wondering what the difference between gelato and ice cream is, we’re here to shed some light on this Italian treasure.

Gelato dates back thousands of years to the Italian Renaissance. Stories say that the Medici family hired artist Bernardo Buontalenti to use his culinary skills to create an elaborate and visually pleasing feast for the visiting King of Spain. Buontalenti presented the King of Spain with the dessert now known as gelato. While Buontalenti is considered the inventor of gelato, a restaurateur by the name of Francesco Procopio dei Coltelli made gelato famous all over Europe. While gelato is the Italian word for ice cream, they are actually quite different.  Gelato is creamier, smoother and silkier than ice cream. The main difference is that gelato uses whole milk as a base while ice cream uses cream.  This means gelato holds less fat, a different consistently and richer flavors. Gelato is also churned at a much slower rate, incorporating less air and leaving gelato denser than ice cream.
